Summer Boho

StyleShannon GuerreroComment

Well, the time has come.  I'm fresh out of content from my epic cross country road trip earlier this summer.  After driving for 10 days through 16 different states, I had a ton of places and tips to share, but everything good has to come to end, right?  Well, don't worry I will be posting a roundup of all of my road trip related posts probably later this week.

I've been dying to post about my new favorite summer maxi dress from Lulu's.  I grabbed it a few months back but just rediscovered it in my closet.  I actually wore it this past weekend.  I was hanging out at the rooftop bar at the Ace Hotel downtown for a friend's going away party. They have a pool, lounge and bar up there.  If you're ever looking for a fun place to spend an afternoon, I'd highly recommend it.  They even had air conditioning in the bar area and tons of shade, which let's face it are huge factors when considering where to go in this recent heat wave in LA.  Also, LA Chapter, is on the street level of the Ace and has a great brunch and really fun drawings all over the walls.

Anyway, I love that this is probably one of the easiest outfits to put together.  Grab a cute maxi dress, a hat and a fun accessory and you're done! Ps. Ignore the fact that I'm my arm is literally up in every photo.  Amateur poser here, haha.

Looks like they have a waitlist for this amazing dress, so sign up and be the first one to find out when it's back in stock! And while you're on their site, take a look around.  Lulu's is increasingly becoming my new favorite shop for dresses.

LBD: Day to Night

I love a good versatile dress.  I found this cute lbd at forever 21.  I had been looking for a knee length fitted dress and this one is perfect.  It’s lightweight and super comfy.  I was pretty skeptical when I first looked at the dress for two reasons.  One, it’s jersey knit.  Need I say more?  Jersey knit has a tendency to be a little unflattering for curves hugging all the wrong places.  Two, I’m a petite person standing at only 5’1”.  I’ve never really purchased any skirts or dresses that are knee length for fear that they would make me look even shorter than I am. I think this proved my fears wrong.

Going from day to night is really fairly simple, especially with a simple black dress like this.  For an easy day look you can go with a chambray shirt or flannel around your waist and so cute sneakers.  To go from casual to dressy, just add heels, a nice jacket and a great lipstick.  I was going to go with my typical black moto leather jacket, but in the spirit of spring, I went with this awesome blush moto, also from Forever 21.  And my favorite dress up rule, add a statement necklace to finish your look.

The Spring Bootie

Does anyone else have a constant battle with their closet?  Like sometimes you wake up and hate your clothes?  And then you can’t decide what to wear for the day because you don’t like your outfit selection.  When I really can’t decide what to wear, which let’s face it happens much more often then not, I rely heavily on my favorite place for outfit inspiration, Pinterest.  I spend a few minutes, or so, browsing for outfits that I can recreate with my wardrobe.  It’s pretty effective.  I’d recommend it for anyone struggling with dressing themselves in the morning.

Then there’s the struggle of wanting to buy more clothes and realizing shopping is expensive.  I would love to buy new clothes on the regular.  Style posts can be hard to put together especially when using old pieces in my closet that no longer are being sold in stores.  I decided that I’ll try to do style posts with clothes that I already have with maybe a piece or two that are newer.  I have one main rule for my closet.  One, if I buy something it has to be replacing something else.  No adding new hangers to accommodate new clothes.  Buy one, get rid of another.

I love wearing booties.  They're probably the most comfortable way to wear a bit of heel to work.  Only problem is with warmer weather approaching or for you LA natives like me, your foot can get a little hot in a closed-toe bootie.  I found the perfect solution.  These cute open-toe booties are going to be my go-to for spring.  The elastic slingback makes them extra comfy.  Check out Sole Society for these ones and tons of other great items including other cut-out booties perfect for spring.
